Report: Dons 6-1 Leyton Orient

The Dons moved to within one point of the automatic promotion places following a sensational 6-1 success over Leyton Orient at stadiummk.

Four goals in 13 minutes from Dean Bowditch, Rob Hall (2) and Will Grigg saw the men from MK1 4-0 up at the break.

Hall completed his hat-trick and Dele Alli wrapped up a magnificent afternoon’s work either side of a consolation from Jay Simpson.

Karl Robinson’s side will be looking to make it seven wins from eight when they host Doncaster Rovers on Tuesday evening.

Bowditch replaced Daniel Powell in the only change for the Dons, who were on the frontfoot from the outset and Hall had a low 20-yard drive well saved by Alex Cisak in the opening minute.

Hall, looking lively once again, put in a dangerous cross shortly afterwards which just evaded Bowditch at the back post.

Venturing forward from centre-back, Kyle McFadzean saw a fierce 25-yard effort smartly pushed away by Cizak, who was the busier keeper in the opening 20 minutes.

Dean Lewington headed Lewis Baker’s corner off target as the Dons upped the tempo as the midway point of the first half approached.

The pressure finally told on 23 minutes when fantastic interchange between Alli, Hall and Grigg set up Bowditch, who made no mistake from six yards. 1-0

It was 2-0 just two minutes later when Hall’s cross from the right appeared to evade everyone and find its way into the bottom left-hand corner.

A clinical seven-minute spell was complete when Grigg sent Cizak the wrong way from the spot after Alli was brought down in the box. 3-0

David Martin ensured the Dons’ three-goal advantage remained intact with a comfortable save to deny Jay Simpson from the edge of the box.

The men from MK1 extended their lead even further on 37 minutes and the fourth was the pick of the bunch – Hall rocketing a 25-yard volley past Cizak after Grigg’s back-heeled had popped up to the winger. 4-0

Martin made a superb double save at the start of the second half, firstly denying Jobi McAnuff and then substitute Shaun Batt.

Hall, a continuous menace to the Orient backline, completed his hat-trick on 59 minutes, expertly meeting Lewis Baker’s cut-back to curl a fine shot into the bottom right-hand corner. 5-0

With a game on Tuesday night, Robinson was able to rest Darren Potter and Grigg with over 25 minutes remaining – Devante Cole and Tom Hitchcock were there replacements.

Simpson pulled one back for Orient on 69 minutes when he raced on to a ball down the right, cut inside and fired into the top left-hand corner. 5-1

Lewis Baker hit the post with a fierce 25-yard drive as the Dons came very close to regaining their five-goal lead with just over 15 minutes left on the clock.

Alli made it 6-1 in some style on 81 minutes, receiving a short corner from Lewis Baker, shifting the ball on to his right foot and curling an unstoppable effort in off the post.

Only a stunning stop from Cizak denied a rampant Dons a seventh late on when he tipped Lewis Baker’s fine effort on to the crossbar.
