Martin: This is a great place to be

Goalkeeper on making his return to MK Dons official...

25 September 2022

David Martin is back at Stadium MK and believes MK Dons can replicate the successes that he experienced during his previous spell with the Football Club.

Martin, who has made 341 appearances in a Dons shirt, has been training with the team since pre-season but has now made his comeback official, stepping up to lead the goalkeeper unit as a player-coach in the absence of Lewis Price.

The 36-year-old was part of the MK Dons side who won promotion to the Sky Bet Championship in 2014/15 and he was also involved in two play-off campaigns.

While aware that this young team will need time to develop, Martin is confident the right foundations are in place for similar good times to come to Stadium MK.

Speaking to iFollow MK Dons, Martin said: “We want to get as high as we can this season and be competitive. Hopefully we can play some entertaining football too because that's what it's all about and that’s what the chairman's brought to this city.

“This is a great place to be when things are rocking and if we can all work together then, although this is a massive stadium, it can really be a fortress for us - I felt that when I've been here.

“The successful times that we’ve had have often been when we’ve had that support behind us and people believing in the way that we are playing and the process. With the manager we have now, that process is there and one people can believe in.”

Martin & Co have a weekend off due to international call-ups but return to action next Saturday when they face Peterborough United at Stadium MK.

Looking ahead to the game, Martin commented: “Winning away, like we did last weekend, is always a nice feeling, especially in in local game and we have another one next Saturday against Peterborough.

“It’s always a feisty game against Peterborough, and I think that’s purely because we are both competitive teams.

“Hopefully we can go out there and use last Saturday’s three points as springboard to play well and get three points. It's all about us making progress and continuing to push our boundaries.”
