Smith: A fantastic following

MK Dons defender Tommy Smith shared his thoughts ahead of the Stadium MK clash against Tranmere Rovers…

11 August 2023

Tommy Smith reflected on the opening day success against Wrexham AFC before looking ahead to the first Stadium MK Sky Bet League Two fixture of the 2023/24 season.

Smith, who signed at Stadium MK as Graham Alexander’s sixth appointment of the summer, was granted his full MK Dons debut in a 5-3 victory over Wrexham AFC at the STōK Cae Ras on the opening day of the season.

The former Colchester United player saw out a full 90-minute match as he supported the Dons in a triumphant first fixture of the 2023/24 campaign.

“I’m delighted to get into the team for the first game of the season and to get the result that we did.” The defender said when he reflected on last Saturday’s victory.

“There was no surprise within our dressing room because we knew what we were capable of, we see it every day in training. Although, the away support led us all the way until the final whistle.

“It was a great following from the away crowd and we’re going to need them through difficult periods, especially with the changes to the additional time. But that’s exactly what they offered on Saturday, they were fantastic.”

Smith said with gratitude to the 1,115 Dons fans who travelled to North Wales in support of Graham Alexander’s men.

Following the start of the season success, MK Dons will look to continue their winning ways against Tranmere Rovers as they return to Stadium MK for the first League Two home match.

When questioned about the upcoming fixture, the number 15 replied “You want to make your home stadium a tough place to come to, and hopefully we can do that on Saturday.

“I think if we concentrate on our performance the results will follow and I’m looking forward to embarking on our home league campaign.

“I mentioned the fantastic away support from the fans last week, hopefully they can be there in full voice at home, and we can give them something to shout about.”
